Arriving late in Paris: late check-in and last connections

Delayed flight, evening train, closed reception: arriving late in Paris takes a little planning. What to check before booking and how to get to your hotel once the last metro has gone.
A delayed flight, an evening TGV, a dinner that runs late: arriving at your hotel after midnight is nothing unusual. What is rarer is finding someone there to welcome you. Many Parisian hotels close their reception in the evening and leave late arrivals to fend for themselves with a key box and a phone number nobody answers. Here is how to avoid that.
Check just one thing when booking
Booking platforms often display a check-in window such as “3 PM - 10 PM”. This does not tell you whether anyone will be there after 10 PM: it only tells you when the hotel would prefer you to arrive. The real question to ask is different: is the reception staffed 24/7, or do you need to give notice of a late arrival?
If in doubt, send the hotel a message with your estimated arrival time. A well-organized hotel will reply within minutes, and that reply is worth more than any online review.
At Korner: arrive at any time
Our hotels were designed so that your arrival time is never a problem. Most of our hotels have a reception open around the clock, and our fully digital guest journey lets you complete your check-in without queues or paperwork: you collect your room and go straight to sleep.
It makes a real difference when you turn up at one in the morning with a suitcase. If you are arriving very late, do still let us know when booking: it changes nothing about the welcome, but it lets us expect you.
The last metro, and after
The Paris metro runs until about 1:15 AM on weekdays, and until about 2:15 AM on Fridays, Saturdays and the night before public holidays. After that, the Noctilien night bus network takes over: slower, but it serves all of Paris and the main train stations.
If you land late, bear in mind that rail links from the airports stop before the metro does. A fixed-fare taxi rate applies from Roissy and Orly to Paris — check the current amount before getting in; it is displayed at the official taxi ranks.
Neighborhoods where getting back late is easy
Not every area is the same at one in the morning. Neighborhoods served by several lines and still lively in the evening are safer and more practical.
Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin is probably the best placed for this: Place de la République is served by five metro lines and the neighborhood stays lively late. Our hotel near the Marais enjoys the same advantage at the heart of the network, as does our hotel on the Grands Boulevards, handy when coming back from a theater or a concert.
If you are arriving on an evening train, staying near your station makes everything easier: our article on hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est details the options in the north, and our hotel near Gare Montparnasse covers arrivals from the west and southwest.
What to prepare on your side
Three simple habits save a considerable amount of time. Keep your booking number accessible offline — airport wifi does not always work and mobile signal is poor in some streets. Note down the hotel's exact address rather than its name, as ride-hailing apps sometimes confuse hotels with similar names. And if you are traveling as a group, check that all the rooms are in the same place.
On that last point: for more than three rooms, our dedicated service takes care of it and puts together a single proposal, which avoids unpleasant surprises at midnight. Everything is explained in our article on booking several rooms in Paris.
And the next morning
A late arrival is often felt the next day. Remember to check breakfast service times, and note that our hotels offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out — useful when you arrive exhausted and leave again soon after.
